Celsius and eeef collaborate to facilitate district heating and cooling networks for European Cities
CELSIUS and the European Energy Efficiency Fund (eeef) have joined forces to help CELSIUS Cities in order to develop and finance sustainable and energy efficient district energy systems (District Heating and Cooling or DHC).
CELSIUS developed over time into a district energy platform of networking and knowledge sharing. It brings together excellence of 20 partner organisations from Gothenburg, London with Islington borough, Rotterdam, Cologne and Genoa.
Looking to have a considerable impact on the energy transition in Europe, the project has created a CELSIUS Network comprised of Member Cities and CELSIUS City Supporters, such as eeef. Today, there are 65 CELSIUS Member Cities and the network is growing through the addition of the CELSIUS City Supporters – district heating and cooling stakeholders, representatives from the private sector, other EU projects, academia, and private and public organizations. The goal is to create a space for various actors to meet, exchange and create synergies for the benefit of district energy systems.
Moreover, CELSIUS aspires to be a respected and influential organisation supporting the development of legislation, regulation and policy that enable DHC networks to play a major role in helping the EU realize its ambitions of low carbon, resource efficient and economically competitive cities.
eeef is the first investment company to join the CELSIUS network and ready to contribute with its experience as a partner for cities and private companies to develop district heating and cooling projects. As a matter of fact, given that district energy networks are costly, complex and require high levels of investments, having a clear funding strategy is key for securing successful implementation.
If you want to know more on how to finance your DHC project, you are invited to participate in the upcoming CELSIUS webinar on “Public and Private funding for District Energy systems”, taking place on Wednesday June 7th at 10:30am CET. Please register here in order to attend.
