The eeef cooperates with Ukmerges District Municipality in Lithuania to upgrade municipal school buildings
Ukmerges District Municipality is the second public authority from Lithuania that will benefit from the eeef’s Technical Assistance (TA) facility.
Ukmerges District Municipality is a municipality situated in Vilnius County, Lithuania with a population of around 45 868 inhabitants. The capital of the municipality is Ukmerge and is the largest settlement and only city in the municipality.
In September 2019, the eeef signed a TA Contract with the Ukmerges District Municipality Administration of the Republic of Lithuania. The objective of this TA is to prepare and implement an ambitious public building renovation investment programme. The Ukmerges District Municipality Administration seeks to upgrade and modarnise five municipal public buildings: (i) Ukmerge Dukstynos Primary School, (ii) Ukmerge District Taujenai Gymnasium, (iii) Ukmerge District Vidiskes Basic School, (iv) Ukmerge children's nursery "Eglute", and (v) Ukmerge Uzupis Primary School. The aim is to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings and ensure that they meet the national energy performance requirements to facilitate a positive contribution to the national strategic objectives in energy efficiency.
A preliminary assessment identified that the five buildings would require an investment volume of around € 5m, to reach the required renovation and energy efficiency level. The TA services, provided by experienced local consultants, will support the efforts of the Administration’s employees to prepare the investment project. Supported services include the preparation of energy audits, the evaluation of the economic viability of the investment and structuring of the tender documents to align with the PPP / ESCO model.
In the context of the TA Facility - funded by eeef in collaboration with the European Investment Bank (“EIB”) – European Local Energy Assistance (‘ELENA’) TA Facility under the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Union - the eeef is welcoming other European public authorities to join the eeef TA Facility, as it is available for further applications.
